Using Aperture and Bokeh in Photography - Royal Botanic Garden at 2pm
Aperture is a tool for controlling the depth of field in an image, and choosing what areas are placed in focus. We’ll be exploring how to use aperture creatively, as well as playing with bokeh.
We have a different photo theme each fortnight and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations across Sydney. Great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer, and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.
Complete beginner? We recommend starting with the Photography for Beginners Class, which is a 3 hour structured workshop where you’ll learn the basics of using your camera with more 1-on-1 time with the instructor.
Looking to learn more? Come along to the group sessions, which are more casual and informal than other workshops, and with more time to take photos and put your new skills into practice.
What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!
What’s involved? Each session starts with an introduction to the fortnight’s theme, and the photography instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You’ll then have time to take lots of photos, with the instructor present to answer any questions. You’ll receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We’re a social bunch!
Architectural photography can be a great way of exploring and documenting a city, whether it’s your home or on holiday. We’ll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use.
Light and Shadow in Photography - The Rocks at 10am
Harsh light and the contrast between light and shadow can provide some interesting photo opportunities, as well as some challenges! We’ll be looking at how you can use your camera’s settings to nail the exposure.
Urban photography is all about exploring your local town or city, and capturing the smaller, often grittier details that are often overlooked. Join this photo walk as we look at how to photograph a mix of architecture, industrial details and street scenes
Zac Alviz was a good instructor. I liked that he set specific challenges and spent time with each of us to review some of our shots. 4/5 by Alan Coligado 6-1-2019
Zac, our photography host, was excellent. He set us a couple of challenges and gave us some extremely helpful tips. He gave us the chance for a brief discussion and share our best work with the group halfway through the event and again at the very end. While this event is not meant to be a lesson, we do want to come away from these events having learned something new, either from the host or each other, that will ultimately make us better photographers. Zac definitely provided the energy & space for that opportunity, despite the intense heat of the day. 5/5 by Victoria Ugarte 5-1-2019
Was a great inspirational 2 hours... Zac Alviz was an excellent teacher/adviser. Will be doing a session again, but hopefully NOT in that sort of heat! 5/5 by Kristine Schipp 5-1-2019
